Merry Christmas and Jupiter/Saturn Conjunction

The Staff of Friends of Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium Wish you the best for the Holidays and Beyond into 2021

Jupiter/Saturn Conjunction and Mystery of Christmas Star

Jupiter and Saturn are in conjunction on Monday, closer than at any time in the past 400 years. They will appear as one “star” in the Western sky after dark, perhaps reminding us that one explanation for the Star of Bethlehem was the concurrence of these two planets around 7 BCE.  The Mystery of the Christmas Star Show presents this in a very interesting and educational way.

On any clear night this month, observe for yourself, this planetary conjunction using just your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.

On Monday, we’ll post additional commentary on www.friendsoftaylor.org,  including instructions on viewing the conjunction going back in time, using the free planetarium program “Stellarium”.

We also invite you to watch our popular planetarium show, “Mystery of the Christmas Star”.

By special arrangement with Evans and Sutherland, we’re offering our Taylor audience a special link to the full video, presented as a flat screen on Vimeo. We ask that you:
1) Watch and enjoy the video. Contact us for the link at friendsoftaylor@gmail.com
2) Consider, if you’re able, a donation to Taylor Observatory — four ways to donate:
a. Through our web page, https://friendsoftaylor.org/membership/ , push the “one time donation” button (Paypal, debit or cc)
b.  Send a check to :  Friends of Taylor Observatory, PO Box 538, Kelseyville CA 95451
c.  Use the donate button on our Friends of Taylor Observatory FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/friendsoftaylorobservatory/
d.  Sign up to donate via amazon.com — see FB page for details.

Finally, Kathy Scavone, a former LCOE teacher, interviewed me for our local newspaper via her “Living Landscape” column in Lake County News, Elizabeth Larson, editor.
