Lunar Eclipse 1.20.19

TENTATIVELY, Taylor Observatory will be open for Lunar Eclipse observation Sunday night, Jan 20, starting at 7:30.  Totality is ~9:15 PM.

Planetarium show at 7:45.

The WEATHER may not be good, however as always we are optimistic, and clear skies are predicted for Monday morning.   If you come to Taylor, dress warmly, as temp will be at best in the low 40’s.  Consider bringing a chair and blankets for observing.  Binoculars are always useful for lunar observation as well and we’ll also have some telescopes set up.

We’ll open the planetarium, hopefully with a special Lunar show.   For this event, although there’s no formal admission charge, donations are always appreciated. We now rent Planetarium shows, and your donations help defray these costs allowing us to bring a greater variety of science and astronomy shows to Norton Planetarium.  And please thank Eduardo Alatorre for setting up this new planetarium system allowing to rent individual shows at reasonable prices!!

The photo below, taken by me and David Velasquez on January 31, 2018 shows the early morning eclipse from atop Wright Peak.  The current lunar eclipse is at a more cooperative time of day.  These eclipses can be spectacular . .  if clear, you’ll see he sky darken at totality with stars and the Milky Way, not normally seen at full moon, suddenly becoming visible.

Please Watch our Facebook Page, “Friends of Taylor Observatory” on Sunday afternoon for up-to-date information.
We may have to cancel this event if the weather is not good: Sorry about the weather!
