“It’s All About Telescopes”
Presenter: Mr. Tom Schlief, Amatuer Astronomer
On April 28, 2018, our own Mr. Tom Schlief, a noted local astronomer and Member of the Friends of Taylor Board, will be discussing telescopes. This event is also a chance to bring your own telescope and receive instructions on its use from Taylor’s astronomers.
Abstract: Thinking about buying a telescope or have one you don’t know how to use? Tom will explain how a “GOTO” computer-controlled scope works. Tom got into astrophotography about four years ago and has rapidly learned planetary, lunar and deep sky photography. He will share some of the photos he has taken to give you an idea what can be seen and photographed from your backyard in Lake County’s spectacular dark skies. Bring your own telescope Saturday night if you would like some help from Taylor astronomers. Be among the first to experience the new 18” Dobsonian scope, just received this week from Teeter Telescopes in New Jersey. It should be an enchanting full-moon evening on the new Charles Nieman Star Deck.
Bio: FOTO Board member Tom Schleif directed the Southport Light Station Museum in WI, recreating the splendor of a 19th Century Lake Michigan lighthouse. With a degree in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin, Tom worked at the Field Museum in Chicago as an exhibit designer and organized Wisconsin’s largest music festival.
