The Basics of Volcanism
Stephen Kane
Taylor Observatory, Saturday, August 18, 2018 – 8:00PM
Abstract: Volcanoes are an integral component of the interconnected systems of Earth, from plate tectonics to climate. They also create serious drama for human beings who happen to live around them when they erupt. “The Basics of Volcanism” will cover the various types of volcanoes that exist on Earth and how they play a role in the habitability of the planet, as well as examples of volcanism on other worlds in our solar system. Jupiter’s moon Io may have over 400 volcanoes.
